Accounting

Fixed assets

Assets a business uses for more than one financial year rather than selling or consuming them.

Examples include vehicles, machinery, computer equipment, and installations. They are capitalised and depreciated rather than treated as a single year's expense.

An example

A sport company's rental equipment is a fixed asset, not a consumable.

The typical mistake

Expensing every purchase because it is simpler. It stops being simpler at the first serious year-end close.

How it appears in AndCompta

Each asset has its own record, value, and accumulated depreciation, and the ledger-account balance reconciles to the sum of the asset records.
