Comparison

AndCompta and Excel

The spreadsheet is flexible, immediate and costs nothing. For the first few months of a very small business, this is often exactly what is needed.

Cells marked “Unverified” are features we have not confirmed directly in the product. We prefer leaving them blank to guessing.

02

When AndCompta makes sense

You already struggle to reconcile quarterly IGI, have lost an invoice, share files with your accounting firm by email or need to file annual accounts.

When Excel makes sense

You have very few transactions, no material accounting obligations and your accounting firm already works well with what you send them.

04 · Migration

If you decide to change

This is the most straightforward migration and the one with the most surprises: entries that never balanced and invoices recorded nowhere almost always surface. It is better to find them now.

What to ask them Gather all the sheets that are part of the process, including those that are used by only one person.

05 · Method

How this table is built

A person manually checked every row against the other tool’s public documentation; the review date appears at the top of the page. When we could not confirm a cell, it says “Unverified” instead of showing a cross.

We work this way because the usual industry comparison—a column of green ticks beside red crosses—is almost always a sign that nobody verified the claims. An honest gap tells you exactly what to ask the other provider before deciding.

If you find an error, send us the source and we will correct it with the correction date. We make corrections even when they make us look worse; a table updated only when it suits us is worthless.

About the change

The spreadsheet works for me. Why change?

As long as it's just one person and the volume is low, it can work. The three times it stops doing so are when a second person comes in, when an inspection arrives, and when you want to sell or transfer the business.

What is the real risk of a spreadsheet?

It has no version control or activity log and usually has a single owner. An overwritten formula leaves no trace, and when the person who built the workbook leaves, the knowledge leaves with them.

Can I still use Excel for some things?

Of course. Everything exports in open formats, and many people continue analysing in spreadsheets what they account for in AndCompta. The ledger is what should not live in a spreadsheet.

The quick way to decide

Open an account, import three months of invoices and see whether the figures reconcile with what you expected. That is more reliable than any comparison table.
